Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much is a visit?

Fee is $250 for the initial visit, approximately 60-90 minutes, and $175 for any follow-up visits, approximately 45-60 minutes, that may be necessary

2. How many visits will I need?

Typically only one. Follow-ups are recommended sometimes for babies who are not thriving at the breast, who had tongue ties released or who have had medical conditions or procedures that make breastfeeding more challenging.

3. Do you take insurance?

Yes I do accept insurance. Currently in network with Aetna insurance, PPO and POS plans. Please contact me if you have Aetna, there is no “pre-approval” for them online.

I also work with Lactation Network. You may use the following link for pre-approval with other insurance companies. Ex: Blue Shield/Blue Cross/Cigna.

4. What happens during a visit?

This depends on how you plan to feed your baby. You may plan to breastfeed, combo feed, pump and feed or you may have questions on bottle-feeding exclusively. Each consult will be different based on your individual wants/needs. Typically a consult would include a full history for you and baby, infant oral assessment, breast assessment, breast/bottle feeding observation. Based on the information gathered, and on observing your baby, together we will create a plan of care that feels manageable for you and your baby and I will make necessary recommendations. I can answer any additional questions you may have.

5. Can I feed my baby before the visit?

Use your best judgement. Babies usually have their own plans around feeding. We will work together to find the best time for a visit. If we are scheduled and your baby needs to feed a little early, let me know as soon as possible and we can make some modifications in most situations.

6. How long is a visit?

Visits typically last between 60-90 minutes. Follow-ups usually last around 45-60 minutes.

7. What do you bring with you?

I bring a baby scale, gloves and devices such as nipple shields, periodontal syringes, feeding tubes, supplemental nursing systems, feeding cups. If you would like anything specific please state that when setting up your appointment.

8. Do you rent pumps?

No, unfortunately at this time I do not rent infant feeding scales.

9. Do you sell anything?

No. I will however provide you with information on how to obtain any breastfeeding “tools” that are recommended during our consult.

10. How can I pay for the visit?

If not paying via insurance, I take cash, checks, and PayPal/Venmo payments. Please refer to “Do you take insurance?” for information on using insurance for FREE consults covered by your insurance plan.

11. Do I need to pay you or will you charge the insurance company?

If you are not using insurance, you will be required to pay consult fee at the end of the visit. I can provide a superbly for you to submit to your insurance to assist with reimbursement process.

12. Are you a doctor? Can you prescribe stuff?

No, I am not a doctor, nurse, or midwife. My specialty is lactation. I cannot prescribe any medications. I can share information with you regarding medications, herbal supplements, etc., that you should discuss with your care provider to make sure they are safe for you and your baby.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have. There are no bad or silly questions friends. XO
